Carson Pass Information Station

For those who have never heard of ENFIA and Carson Pass, every summer volunteers from the organization staff and maintain the Forest Service Information Station at the summit of Carson Pass on Highway 88. The early years found the docents serving the public from a converted out-house. Now, a sturdy log cabin, painstakingly constructed by ENFIA volunteers over many seasons, houses the docent staff. The best is yet to come, you ask? Yes, there are perks to sharing your time with visitors to the National Forest. Be patient! Volunteers offer to become docents at "The Pass" for many reasons. Some are western history buffs, others delight in imparting their knowledge of the flora of the area; some have an interest in natural history or have hiked for years and know the ways of the backcountry. Some just come! Neither special talent nor experience is necessary. A cheerful attitude with a willingness to learn is all that is needed. Could you help someone pick out a map or a Smokey Bear puppet?
