Off-Highway Vehicle Access

Off-Highway Vehicles or OHVs are permitted on literally thousands of miles of trails on US public lands. When a trail permits OHV access you can use the vehicle to reach hiking, fishing, camping or hunting locations. In fact, an All Terrain Vehicle will grant you access to some areas that would otherwise be unreachable. You can cover more distance, carry supplies and traverse difficult terrain such as rocky canyons or desert areas. You can have a lot of fun and make memories but please be safe, respectful of others and respectful or our lands. You must acquire the necessary permits and follow the rules to ride Off-highway vehicles in US Parks, have fun!

OHV Tips and Ideas:

  • Make a list of what you will need and what you will be able to carry on your OHV.
  • Wear appropriate safety gear and always operate the vehicle in a controlled manner.
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you should be back.
  • Research the area with maps before the trip and know the territory. You should know where the locations of the closest ranger station, roads, emergency call boxes and water sources.

  • Be careful of wild animals.
  • Vandalism has closed many trails that were once available in our parks. If you see this behavior report it immediately.
  • Please remember that you may be sharing the trail with hikers, mountain bikers or equestrians. Be careful and respect others on the trail.
